What happens in a lesson?

In the AT lessons you practise and work to recover the unity of the self. Nowadays it is very common to be in parts, to be split. With the AT you work to be connected with yourself and with the environment at the same time, thinking while in action, relaxing, being open and alert.
The teacher works in a one to one lesson, in a personal and direct relation with the student. The teacher will work with words and his/her hands on the pupil. Whilst
lying down or going through simple movements such as standing, sitting and walking, both teacher and student find out about the use of the student, i.e. the physical habits of the student and the way the pupil thinks in activity. During a lesson, the aim is to gently alter the use of the pupil so there is more ease, efficiency and enjoyment of simple movements and of course in a new neurological pathway. It is not only that the technique is done to the pupil, but it also provides the pupil with a tool to be put into practice outside the lesson.
At the beginning it is important to have regular lessons, to have a base to be able to work on yourself. Time for changes will be needed to apply the technique to more complex and demanding activities.
In the lesson you will be ask to remove your shoes and to wear comfortable clothes in which you can move easily.
